IVP die/x-ray testFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Feb 2001 12:18:45 -0800 (PST)
Ever since I got married (1997), I've had a history of UTI and kidney infections.I had urinalysis, ultrasound tests done. Now they want to do an IVP. I understand this is when die is injected into the body and x-rays of the pelvis are taken at 5 mintue intervals to see where to die is going. Does this test serve soley to rule out kidney stones? Is there anything else they are looking for with the IVP test besides kidney stones? I am reluctant to take this test because I am 24 and plan on getting pregnant next year. Wouldn't this type of radiation leave my reproducative organs suseptable to radiation damage? Isn't there a safer way to look for kidney stones before resorting to this type of invasive test?
