After consulting with my M.D., I was referred for a transvaginal ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a 5 cm cyst in my rt. ovary "with a few septations". Although the endometrial thickness was just within normal limits, I had an endometrial biopsy due to the abnormal bleeding. The biopsy was negative. The CA-125 was 8. I have never been on birth control pills or HRT and have never been pregnant. The gyn. has referred me for another ultrasound in 2 months with the thought that the cyst may shrink in that time. I am concerned that if the cyst is not benign that may be too long to wait, although there is no history of cancer in my family. Do you think it's safe to wait this long? >Anne Anne, I have to say that a 5 cm cyst with sepatations in a 55 year old postmenopausal woman would prompt me to consider removal. Your physician is trying to avoid you undergoing a surgical procedure for what is likely a benign cyst. Unfortunately, the facts would push me to action sooner... Lynn
