Re: Hysterectomy BashingFor more information on symptoms and treatment of endometriosis visit www.EndometriosisZONE.org. From: Katherine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 25 Feb 2001 16:32:36 -0600 (CST)
I too had a successful hysterectomy almost 2 years ago, which removed my uterus and ovaries but not my cervix. It was a slow healing - which was the most frustrating part - and the only problem that remains is high blood pressure that was most likely brought on by the fact that I can't take estrogen & was catapulted into an early menopause. Anyway, I was in a life-threatening situation in which I had to have a hysterectomy. No question. At the time, it was extremely difficult to read all of the negative points of view about hysterectomies - and I really longed for a more balanced view. I saw web sites that called hysterectomies "female castration." This was of course scary, and I had no choice but to have a hysterectomy if I wanted to keep on living. Anyway, I agree that hysterectomies are major surgeries that shouldn't be undertaken unless really necessary, but if they are necessary, people shouldn't get too flipped out about them. The pain is manageable, the scariest part is anticipating the worst, and before you know it (for most of us), in a couple of months, you are skipping down stairs again and feeling the old energy back - sexual and otherwise. Hope this helps.
