DUB & Depo Provera Problems

I am a 36 year old obese female in relatively good health diagnosed with DUB a year ago. After an exam, PAP and lab work (which came back WNL), my GYN explained that I was estrogen dominant and thus not ovulating regularly. He prescribed Depo Provera 110 mgs every 8 weeks to control the bleeding. The Depo worked fine for the first 4 – 5 months along with intermittent Megace. Some time around the 4th shot the dosage of Depo. was increased to 150 mgs., followed ever since by mild to heavy spotting with occasional heavy bleeding – clots and cramping. I had transvaginal ultrasound 6 months ago for left lower abdomen pain, the results were the uterus and ovaries looked essentially normal. Currently (last 2 – 3 months) I spot all the time, sometimes heavy, sometimes lightly but there are cramps all the time. I called my GYN and explained the situation, I asked if the Depo. could be causing the problems and his answer was “could be, but it is time to do a D&C”. My GYN suggested BCP after the D&C to control the bleeding if necessary. I am very afraid of this upcoming surgery, as I don’t do well with anesthesia. I trust my doctor, but I am afraid to question his recommendations. Could BCP be used while I am coming off the Depo as an alternative to the surgery? He mentioned polyps, but wouldn’t they have shown up on the U/S? Thanks a bunch!
