Rectocele following Bladder Repair and HysterectomyFrom: Phyllis (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 21 Feb 2001 18:37:31 -0600 (CST)
In 1995 I had a full abdominal hysterectomy (including ovaries) and a bladder repair (MMK...I think!). Approx one week post-op I detected a vaginal bulge during showering. My gyn advised it was a rectocele that was not detected prior to the surgery. It is becoming increasingly problematic...especially prone to dryness of the "bulge" and occasional bleeding/ulceration. When I bend over, I can feel the bulge slip back into place. The prospect of the rectocele surgery is scary...especially regarding pain experienced and recovery time. Would weight reduction help this condition? Is there any type of cream to alleviate the dryness? How is the surgery done...vaginally or rectally?
