Anon....

Personally, My Dr. has always had someone in the room with him during the exam....I have been to several GYN's, and it has been that way with all of them. Even my Dermatologist has an assistant in the room! It is for their protection as well as yours.

I can't see why the Dr. would get upset with this....I'd actually be concerned if the Dr. WAS upset if you asked for another person to be in the room.

I think it is always open in the front to make it easier to do the breast exam, but I can't see why a Dr. would mind if you ask that the gown open in the back. This way you can pull your arm out for him to examine each breast.

Yep, I am with you oon this one about being embarrassing!

In fact, I get very nervous. One time I was at the Dr. for my annual exam. He looked at me and said, "Why is it every time I examine you, your heart rate is going a mile a minute?" I looked at him and said, "Okay Doc, you get up on this table, take off all of your clothes and put those feet up in the stirrups with your legs spread eagle, and you let me know how you feel!" He said, "Well, that puts things in perspective for me!!" LOLOLOL I bet he never asked that question of any patient again ;o)....

Good luck with everything!
