Oral contraceptives and the sun

Hello-

I am 30 years old I have been taking the oral contraceptive ortho-tricylcen for about 10 years. Recently, I have been experiencing adverse affects in the sun. I develop red blotches on my upper arms and chest that become inflammed and irritated. I have been told that this may be a result of an adverse reaction from the birth control medication. Is this possible and if so, why has this developed in recent years when I have been taking it so long. If I were to discontinue use, would these effects dissipate?

Thank you. Amy
