ovarian cysts/pelvic painFrom: Katherine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 15 Feb 2001 14:39:13 -0600 (CST)
I had a hysterrectomy in mid-1999 due to recurrent cervical CIS. As I was only 43, ovaries were left intact. During a diagnostic colonoscopy early fall 2000, a glandular polyp was removed. I was cautioned by my GI for careful, dedicated screenings for ovarian and breast perceived genetic links. In November 2000, during my annual GYN exam, I told my physician about some lower right pelvic pain. A cyst was discovered on my right ovary. An ultrasound confirmed small functionally appearing cyst. As pain worsened, a "pinching or pulling" pain when getting up from chair, bed, car, or going down stairs, another ultrasound was performed in December. It showed two small functionnally appearing cysts on right ovary and one similar one on left ovary. As pain has continued, I began taking BCP in an attempt to shrink cysts. In early February, after 14 weeks of cysts and pain, a third ultrasound showed similar size cysts and in appearance, on both ovaries. A CA125 test came back normal. An exploratory laparotomy and BSO is scheduled in several weeks. I'm anxious to rid of the pain but my physician's and my only concern is whether or not the pain is related to the cysts. Any advice on next steps?
