vaginal exams for virgins

Hi, these questions may sound silly, but I don't know who else to ask. I am a 32 year old virgin (I know..it's rare)...anyway, vaginal exams are always painful for me...I'm assuming it's because I'm a virgin. My question is....can a doctor tear the hymen during an exam? Please explain how this would/wouldn't happen. Also, I always have a lot of vaginal burning that gets worse during my period. I have been treated for a yeast infection and the burning gets better for a little while, then it gets worse again. What could be causing this? I haven't talked with my doctor about this because I don't want him to do an exam during my period...would this be necessary in order to find out what is causing the burning? Does it bother the doctor as much as it would me to be do an exam during my period?
