Re: Prenatal vitaminsFrom: ams (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 14 Feb 2001 11:01:38 -0600 (CST)
You say you started the prenatal vitamins two months ago, but you didn't say if you were pregnant. If you are, then the timing of day could be a problem (and hopefully, as the pregnancy progresses, the nausea will decrease). You say they immediately make you ill. If you are pregnant, especially in the beginning, the time of day you take the vitamin could increase your likelihood of being nauseated. Try another time of day (if you were taking them in the morning, try at night, and vice versa...or even in the middle of the day--whenever you feel at your best). For me, I had problems with the size of the pills and opted for a smaller one. You might try taking it after food if you were taking it on an empty stomach. Also, I know people who cannot tolerate them at all, and their doctor or nurse midwife suggested over the counter children's chewable vitamins plus extra folic acid. You should consult your doctor first, obviously, to see what dosage to take and to make sure it is acceptable. Good luck.
