Actually, your wife has a fibroadenoma (that way, if you want to look it up online, you will know how to spell it). You are saying it has been diagnosed as benign, so I assume that means thru biopsy. Fibroadenomas do not have to be removed necessarily, it can depend on the size, if they cause pain (although my doctor said removing them wouldn't guarantee it would totally relieve the pain), and the anxiety it causes the woman. Sometimes the anxiety of having any lump in your breast is worse than having it there even though you know it is ok. I have several that my doctor says she will remove if I want them removed, but it isn't necessary since they are small. They are benign (which means not cancer), they cannot turn into cancer, and they do not make her at higher risk for getting breast cancer. It isn't something to worry about, but I know that for me, finding a lump was so scary! Best wishes, AMS
