myoma in pregnancyFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 Feb 2001 07:21:59 -0600 (CST)
I am 31 years old, G1P0, and I am on my 18th week of gestation. I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound on my 13th week of pregnancy with the following findings: The uterus is anteverted and deviated to the left with irregular contour and heteregenous echopattern ...The cervical portion measures 4.5 x 3.8 x 3.2 cm with a hypoechoic mass at the cervical canal which measures 4.8 x 1.2 x x 1.9 cm. There are two hypoechoic massses with definite border noted at the lower uterine segment encroaching into the submucosa: M1 at at the anterior border measuring 4.5 x 3.4 x 4.3 cm and M2 at the right lateral portion measuring 7.7 x 7.4 x 8.0 cm. Within the endometrial cavity is a single live fetus with fetal heart beat of 160 beats per minute. The placenta is posterofundal with its lower edge 3.7 cm from the internal os, grade 0. The hypoechoic masses at the cervical canal were two cervical polyps, upon internal examination. My questions are: 1. Is there a possibility for me to deliver by normal, vaginal route? 2. What are the possible complications for me and the baby? 3. In case I undergo a myomectomy, can my uterus be preserved? I might wish to go thru succeeding pregnancies since this is only my first child. What are the options for me? My doctor says to immediately get on with a next pregnancy in case the myoma grows in size entailing a hysterectomy later on. Can I still postpone succeeding pregnancies without risk? 4. Is there a non invasive procedure to remove or reduce the myoma? 5. Is sexual intercourse prohibited during the course of my pregnancy? 6. What medications can I take now to reduce the potential harm of the myoma reducing my uterine blood supply and blood supply to the baby? Thanks a lot for your attention and I will appreciate your suggestions.
