Complex kidney cystFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 10 Feb 2001 21:03:31 -0600 (CST)
In April, 1999, I had a CT scan and a complex cyst was discovered on my right kidney, 1.4 cm. Feb. 7, 2001, I had an MRI and and there is the same 1.4 cm mass identified at the anterolateral aspect of the right mid uppler kidney. It is homogeneously isointense to renal parenchyma on T1 and T2 weighted imaging. Following administration of contrast the mass does not exhibit enhancement. It is the same mass as studied in 1999 and has not changed in size. It does not exhibit the spin scho signal characteristic of a simple cyst. On the other hand, there is no evidenc of contrast enhancement after administration of gadolinium. Imaging findings are likely related to a complex cyst. However, a hypovascular renal cell carcinoma could alo have a similar appearance. This came from the radiologist's report. My question is: What exactly is a complex cyst? If this were cancer would it not have grown in over two and one half years? I have been advised simply to have another MRI in 6 months to chck it. Is this your advice? Are complex cysts common. I am 58 yrs. old.
