Kelly Shanahan, MD: "Re: grapefruit-sized fibroid" I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago about my 5 week pregnancy ending in miscarriage, and HCG levels rising, and wondered if I needed a DNC. As Dr. Wang suggested (I didn't get to read the email till after I was diagnosed), but I did indeed have an ectopic pregnancy. They did a sonogram to rule out the pregnancy being in my uterus, but also could not see anything in my tubes. I was told that since my HCG was only at 283 at the time of the sono, that it was near impossible to view where it was, except that it was indeed not in the uterus, and the pathology report showed no fetal tissue in my mucous plug. Does that all make sense to you? I had hoped to have seen something. I have had a shot of Methodextrate, and am waiting till next week to make sure my levels go down.
