Enlarged ovary and laporostomyFrom: Steph (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Jan 2001 20:38:06 -0600 (CST)
I've been dealing with right sided pelvic pain for almost a month now, and the ultrasound showed that my left ovary was 2.3 centimeters (normal), and my right ovary was 4.3 centimeters (according to the dr., slightly enlarged).I've been taking birth control pills but they haven't helped and the pain is getting worse. I was told today that I need to have a laparostomy (I hope I spelled that right) to see what the heck is going on inside that ovary. My dr. told me that it could be a cyst that isn't showing up on the ultrasound or a small tumor. I am absolutely terrified that I've got ovarian cancer. I've been really worried about it, but now I'm convinced. I'm only 26, what are the odds? The ultrasound didn't show a mass, or a cyst, so I'm confused. Wouldn't a tumor show up on an ultraound? What would cause it to be enlarged like that?
