If I treat vaginitis symptoms repeatedly without a significant resolution, then I need to consider that I do not have the correct diagnosis. At that point, I will determine where the most pronounced area of symptom is and do a small biopsy of the area. Most of the time, the pathologist tells me what it is and it wasn't a "vaginitis" The most common finding is that of human papilloma virus (HPV). Other times, it is related to an allergic problem with chronic inflammation. If these are the case you can treat for a BV from here to eternity and the symptoms will always come back. You need a biopsy and then treatment tailored to the actual problem... Lynn
