Good Evening,

I hope there is no rule against reposting (unanswered) questions to the forum, but I am to the point of desparation. Can anyone assist with suggestions that I can discuss with my doctor?

Repost follows:

Hello, I am 47, and have "lots of fibroids" (<--the answer a doc gave subsequent to an ultra-sound). Two years ago, I experienced a sudden onset of heavy bleeding for which I was prescribed Provera. I do not remember the dosage or the duration I took the meds. No problems after that until.... Almost 2 years to the day, the same excessive (*very* heavy, prolonged, w/clotting) bleeding occurred. No pain during either incident. In the latter part of 9/00 (during the second episode of heavy bleeding), I did what I now consider to be a really stupid thing; requested a shot of Depo-Provera. *BAD* idea. The bleeding stopped after a few days for all of about 3 weeks at which time, I had what I thought was a period (albiet, rather light). After several days, I contacted a doc who advised this was "breakthrough bleeding". Five days Provera. No change. Btw, a few weeks after the shot, I noticed *intense* mood swings, what could be labeled as depression, periodic headaches - I do *not* get headaches!. Frankly, most times I felt like a nut more often than not, etc. - this continued until after I saw the doc on 1/8/01) Waited until after the holidays and went to the doc (still bleeding) who prescribed Provera (14 days) and Premarin (.03) (I mentioned occasional flashes - not bothersome really and trouble *staying* asleep - which consequently resulted in daily fatigue) daily. Took the prescribed dosage of Provera, continued the Premarin, noticed a low-grade, but *continual* headache, and, here I sit, still bleeding. Yes, doc did tests, took cultures and smears. Said if there were any abnormalities, she'd call. No call, and here I sit, still bleeding. Stopped taking the Premarin two days ago; no headache today. But, here I sit, still bleeding. And, it is getting on my nerves. Nov 00 to present, still bleeding. Suggestions?

Forgot to mention, that for the past few (almost 3) years, my periods which were regular as clockwork for the majority of my life, became sporadic. With the progression of time, I was having fewer and fewer. As a matter of fact, just prior to the last heavy bleeding episode (9/00), I recall that it had been a few months since I'd had one. Which was the way it had been on and off for the past few years. From between 29-31 days to as long as 80+ in between.

Btw, the last doc I saw was going to suggest b/c pills (prior to even asking my history, mind you). I told her that I did not think it would be a good idea in that not only am I overweight (really don't like that word, but....), but, I am a smoker. :o( I also take 1/2 tablet of Tenormin (25 mgs) and 1/2 tab Hydrochlorithiazide (the orange ones) daily for mild hypertension. She ruled out the b/c's after I *gave* her my history, unsolicted......

I am not interested in a hysto. I am not in pain, had one bad cramping session once in *life* (I began my period at age 10), and, other than the two bouts of bleeding (two years apart) and my present situation, I am otherwise waiting to transition into the big M with everthing still intact.

Still waking up nightly, still tired all day/most days, and *still* bleeding.
