tumors and polyps and cysts, oh my!From: Angie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Jan 2001 12:22:01 -0600 (CST)
I've been trying to get "fixed" since Sept and am getting frustrated. Have been having bleeding after sex, pelvic pain most of the time, painful sex, incontinence etc. for a long time. Mom has had breast and uterine cancer. I am 46, 3 kids, tubal ligation. Pap was ok. Colposcopy was ok, though doctor saw lots of vascularity, mosaicism and had lots of areas to biopsy. Endometrial biopsy also clear. No infections - chronic cervicitis. On to ultrasound - showed an enlarged uterus with a predominant intramural fibroid, a large number of polyps or other fibroids inside the uterus, and numerous undistinguishable "densities" throughout the lining. Also have cyst on left ovary and tech had difficulty finding my right. Doctor wants to do hysteroscopy and laparoscopy but my HMO (grrrrr!) won't approve lap without further other tests. Any ideas about what could be going on with me and what these procedures will be able to tell? Does any of it sound like uterine cancer? Should I have the hysterosopy now just to get something going or should I wait until we've settled the HMO prerequistes and have both at once? How long can one "sit on" things like fibroids and cysts and polyps without knowing if they're benign or malignant? Sorry this is so long, I am worn out from worry and frustration.
