4 MONTH PERIOD, GOING ON 5

I am 24 years old, have had 2 vaginal births and a tubal after the last one in 1998. About 4 months ago I started what I thought was my period. But it was a thick brown mucus substance. A bunch of it. It lasted for about two weeks. And then It turned into a regular period, but it lasted for about 8 days more. It quit for about 4 days then started all over again. The same thing. Except when it quit, it came back 3 days later. Now it is constant. But it's not really brown anymore. It's red. But still really thick. I have had my blood checked. My hormones are fine. my thyroid is fine. I'm not pregnant. Everything was fine. So what else could it be? My doctor has referred me to a gyno. It's been almost two years since my last pap smear. Could it be cancer? My stomach is always very tender. I can't even lay my own arms on my stomach sometimes because it hurts. Sometimes it hurts to have sex. It's been 4 months of this irregular/constant bleeding. I can't tell when it's my "real" period anymore. I'm scared of something deadly. Please respond soon. Thank you.
