I've only had one laparoscopy (with a hysteroscopy at the same time, which might make a difference), and I *did* have a pelvic exam at my post-op check. It was no worse than any other pelvic exam - however, I was not having lots of pain (except around the incision in my belly).

If your doctor wants to do one it wouldn't hurt to ask if it's *really* necessary. If there's a very good reason to do one, then you might want to go ahead. You can certainly refuse anything - they can't force you. If your doctor feels it would be in your best interest I wouldn't blame him/her for trying to talk you into it though.
