skipping a period

Hi! I had read that by skipping the placebos in my birth control pills, I could skip my period. I did this, but unfortunately didn't realize that it worked differently since I am taking ortho-tricyclen. Instead of taking the last ones, the ones with the higher doses right before the placebos, I started the new pack at the beginning. I have had some bleeding, which I learned may occur. However, my major concern is the effectiveness. By doing this wrong, did I risk getting pregnant? Thanks for your help! -Allison
