period and tampon questionsFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 20 Jan 2001 17:57:03 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I have a few quick questions. First of all, I've heard that you should change tampons every 4-6 hours to be safe. I normally do this and assumed that this meant I shouldn't wear one tampon overnight (8-9 hours). Is this true? My roommate wears tampons overnight and has no problems. Is this safe? Second, my menstrual fluid this month has been much darker (almost black!) than usual. Is this normal or could it be a sign of a problem? Lastly, when do I count the first day of my period. I usually have a day before I truly start when there is blood when I wipe after urinating, but nothing shows up on a pad. Is this the first day? Thanks so much for your help!
