Re: hystectomy at 30From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 11 Jan 2001 23:32:15 -0600 (CST)
I am no doctor, but I have had to contemplate a hysterectomy at age 27, for different reasons than yours. But, sometimes these doctors get carried away and just love to do hysterectomies. If your doc is a man, ask him if he would remove his testicles "just because." If I were you, I would get a second opinion. There are a multitude of health risks caused by early menopause, and you will have to be committed for the rest of your life to hormone therapy, risks of osteoperosis, certain forms of cancer, I could go on and on. I am sure that having PID is no picnic, but see if there is anything else they can do. You would have to face menopause only if they remove your ovaries. Can they spare them? Just think it through thoroughly before you do something drastic, because there ain't no reversin' a hysterectomy! Good luck.
