Jennifer,

I am on them because I have a progesterone deficiency - luteal phase defect. Are you familiar with this? It sounds like you may have it too since your progesterone was low.

Yes, it is also possible that your pregnancy has a problem and is failing. And in that case the progesterone can interfere (delay) the natural expulsion of the fetus, but from what I've read, it won't make your body take a baby to term that you would otherwise miscarry. If your doctor monitors you with ultrasound, she or he will see (if there is a problem) a dead fetus at some point and then you can stop the progesterone and nature will take it's course. (This is terrible stuff to think about, but I assume that this is what you are concerned about)

Why not let nature take it's course now by going off the progesterone? Well, what if you have an otherwise healthy baby in there and the only reason you would lose it is that your body is not producing enough progesterone? It would be a real shame to lose the baby for this avoidable reason.

I don't know how easily you got pregnant the first time, but it took me over a year of intense trying (and fertility drugs) to get pg. Before that I had a miscarriage (conceived naturally). Whatever you do, don't assume that if you let this baby possibly go you will conceive again as easily.

I absolutely suggest you stick with the Crinone and if you are worried about the pregnancy, have your doctor do a couple more ultrasounds in the next couple of months. By the way, progesterone is a very safe substance to use in pregnancy. You're just adding more of what your body is supposed to be producing on it's own.

Lots of luck,
