anti-depressants and pregancyFrom: amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Jan 2001 09:54:12 -0600
i have a question about two medications, which tie together: 1) i am currently on wellbutrin - just starting it, maximum dose (i have a high tolerance). if this doesn't work, he will try and add other things. i have been on many different ones over the years. this is a new psych. i am also trying to get pregnant. should i go off? try something else? 2) i ruptured at 16 wks w/fraternal twins, carried them until 23 1/2wks. they grew as they were supposed to, and we saw them "breathing" on the ultra sound, indicating fluid intake/lung development. i was taken off anti-biotics, immediately got an infection and went into labor - emergency c-section (alexa / twin a was breech). it was also for that reason that they never knew she had congenital anomolies. her left foot was missing and most of her fingers from both hands. her sister was fine, she just took an unexpected turn that they 'think' was due to permaturity / under-developed lungs. there were no other complications during the pregnancy, and i am a healthy, 30 year old, moderately active. i was on celexa, and allergy med (shots until i ruptured and was put on bed rest). the doctors (family practice and allergist) said it was ok to stay on (no evidence, etc.). what are the effects of celexa and pregnancy? or d'allergy jr for that matter? i really need to be on both of these (and get my shots) to have any quality of life, but i don't want to take any chances in harming my pregnancy. they have told me that i will be high risk now.
-- thanks, amy
