When I was a third year medical student, I did a rotation with a staff physician that swore that every time he felt a cold coming on he would take 2000 mg of penicillin and avert the cold. Despite all the scientific evidence to the contrary, I began doing this and continued doing it for years. About two years ago, I did this and about two weeks later, developed this wierd taste in my mouth and my wife told me my breath was aweful. I looked closely in my mouth and low and behold, I had thrush. Immediately, forgetting about the antibiotic therapy two weeks before, freaked out thinking I had HIV. Because of being involved in surgical health care, I have had about 100 HIV tests-all negative. After freaking out, I remembered the antibiotics. Needless to say, I have not used the "cold prevention" method since.

With all the antibiotics you have been on, thrush does not surprise me. It is very doubtful with your negative tests that you have HIV... Lynn
