FibroidsFrom: Janice (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Dec 2000 19:26:18 -0600 (CST)
I am 48 years old, divorced, no children. I have fibroids and have been told that I will need surgery. I have at least five fibroids ranging from 2 CM to a 5.7 X 4.8 x 5 CM. One exophytic fibroid arising from the right posterolateral wall of the myometrium. Both Ovaries are normal. There is a 2.3 CM left Ovarian Follicle. No mass or fluid collection. I took Lupron just over 2 years ago, but was only on for 2 1/2 months. The doctor decided to take me off prematurely because it caused extreme depression. The fibroids however decreased in size, to almost non existence. The fibroids do not cause excessive bleeding. The only problem I have is pressure. I've been told I will need a hysterectomy by several surgeons. I don't want a hysterectomy done for a pelvic pressure problem. I've asked several doctors about alternative surgey, but to no avail. Do you think a hysterectomy is a reasonable solution and do you know how I can find a doctor in the South Boston area who can give me more options. Thank you so much for your assistance and have a happy New Year.
