Belly button...Infection?

I noticed about 2 days ago that there was a sticky light greenish-brown, very bad smelling "stuff" in my belly button. The inside is red, inflamed and very, very sore. I thought it was due to my pants being too tight but I have been wearing loose clothing and I have been rinsing it out with peroxide and applying neosporin and A&D ointment but it is not clearing. The "stuff" has not come back but it is very painfull. The redness has not spread and it is only inside my belly button. I don't know if I should continue treating myself or if I should be concerned and go to a doctor. Thanks for any help.
