A thin strawlike soft plastic instrument is inserted in the uterus and low suction is applied ot it. This removes a little sample of the endometrium. This is usually done without any anesthesia and is quite benign. A vaginal biopsy usually requires anesthesia, local usually is adequate. A portion of the lining of the vagina is cut off with scissors and the area is then sewn together with suture.
