Hi Beth,
Sounds like all the tests that were done probably ruled out
Appendicitis. With the painful periods you describe, the timing of the
pain, etc., it is possible that maybe you have Endometriosis. I know
you said you had a lap (which BTW will allow the Dr. to look at the
appendix), but if the surgeon is not experienced in finding all of the
different appearances (colors) of Endo, it can be missed. Implants can
be small enough to not be seen, but enough to cause pain.
If you search around, you might find a surgeon willing to do the
appendectomy, but if it really isn't in your best interests (I'm not
saying this is definitely the case for you, so please, do not
misunderstand), it is a true disservice to you. There are surgeons out
there, unfortunately, that will operate on you for anything, but it
isn't the best thing to do.
I had an appendectomy when I was 9 (had it done the old fashioned
way...large incision..they now do appendectomies laparoscopically), and
it was very difficult for me to get over, even being a child (I did
develop Peritonitis).
What makes you think it could be your appendix? I would suggest talking
to your Dr. and asking him/her exactly why s/he won't do the
appendectomy.
Feel better.
