hormones vs polypFrom: Bekka (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Dec 2000 08:50:22 -0600 (CST)
Dear Doc I'd be very grateful if you could review my facts and answer the questions below ; Facts : Suffer extreme spasms of pain every 4-8 months for last 4 years, each attack lasts 40 minutes and not linked to sex or any particular time of month. Experience brown spotting following after period (5-8 days) and after ovulation until day 1 of next cycle. Time around ovulation free of spotting. Charts show temp shift mid cycle and ovulation predictor kit gives +ve result just before temp shift. Period is only 1 day of light flow red blood (followed by the brown spotting). Day 5 and day 21 blood tests show progesterone levels good (80 after ovulation). Trying to conceive for 6 months. Questions : My doc says the spasms are 'smooth muscle spasms'. Is there treatment for this? My doc suggests spotting caused by a polyp rather than hormonal imbalance. Would you agree considering no spotting occurs around ovulation (spotting 2 days after ov) and progesterone levels are good. He wants to conduct a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to check tubes, find/remove polyp. He says luteal phase defect is very rare. Why is my period so light even though progesterone levels are good? Many thanks for your time. Bekka
