Cutting Back Dosage on PremproFrom: Judy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Dec 2000 12:34:51 -0600 (CST)
I am 52 years old and have been taking hormones for the last 2 1/2 years. For the the last three months, I have been only taking half of my prescribed dosage of .0625/2.5 Prempro. I cut the pills in half and take one a day. I did this in the hopes of reducing my risks of breast cancer, but I hoped that I would be at least receiving minimal benefits. I can say that after three months, I feel no different and have not had any dryness, mood changes or hot flashes. Is there any evidence that such a low dosage can have any benefits? And if so, am I right in my hopes that it may be reducing my risk somewhat? I do not have any of the risk factors for developing breast cancer, but I have seen way too many of my friends go through the disease and am plenty scared. Thank you for your help.
