mass in vagina - what is it?From: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 14 Dec 2000 20:53:44 -0600 (CST)
During my last period, I noticed that the tampons didn't seem to sit quite right. After my period, I examined myself with a mirror and saw a tissue bulge near my vaginal opening. It was pink, like the other vaginal tissues. Scared now, I felt inside and felt a 3-4cm firm lumpish, bulging area on my posterior vaginial wall. It protrudes and I can feel it all around (like picking up a grape with three fingers)It seems to almost completely obscure the entrance to my vagina now. Above this mass, my vagina seems to continue normally up to my cervix. I can feel my cervix quite easily (new for me - it is usually out of reach, for years I had the darndest time with getting my diaphragm in and out!). I have also had an increase in clear thin discharge (no odor, no pain, no itching) since my period. My bowel and bladder functions are normal. I am in my late-twenties, married, with two children (one was over ten pounds) both delivered vaginally, normal deliveries. I am very attuned to my body, but this is all new changes, never felt this before. I am worried about cancer, abcess (sp?) prolapse etc. I have a gyno appointment in a few weeks, but I am so worried I am having trouble sleeping.... My anxiety is very high on this, I did some web-searching and found VERY little information, just that vaginal cancers and uterine prolapse are rare and usually occur in the elderly. So what IS it? Any thoughts??
