Biopsy

I went to my ob/gyn on this past Friday to determine if a hysterectomy can be done. During the pelvic exam, which I might add hurt like hell, he said and I quote, "yep it is big".

He and I, along with my primary physician had already determined that a hysterectomy was warrented due to severe pelvic pain and an enlarged uterus, as of 10/23/00 was 10.6 x 4.9 x 5.9 cm and deemed a fibroid uterus. Since he said the above statement I am assuming that it has grown signaficatly in the past 2 months. I look like I am 5 months pregnant.

He also mentioned that he wants to do a biopsy? I asked if that meant a pap smear and he said yes. Now this was the second ob/gyn I have gone to in the last month. The first one, I couldn't even tell he was doing a pelvic exam, meaning I don't think he did one, and he said the problem wasn't from my uterus and it must be my hip/pelvic bones causing the pelvic pain. I was then sent to an orthopedic surgeon who requested an MRI of my lower spine and pelvis both which were normal. That ob/gyn did a pap smear but all I have gotten is a verbal NORMAL, my doctor's office was supposed to get a report of the office visit along with the test results, but have not received them even after several phone calls, and it has been almost a month. I told this to my new ob/gyn and he said that he cannot take a verbal result to heart and wants to do another test. Mainly to determine if there is cervical cancer and to determine the type of hysterectomy he does.

Here is my question: Does this mean another Pap smear? I have always gotten my yearly pap smears like clockwork and they have always come back normal. If so, and this one comes back normal what are my surgical options? I asked his staff which types of hysterectomies he does and they said TVH TAH and LAVH.

Please advise
