17 weeks pregnant and spotting last night

Hi, I am nearly 17 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from all day morning sickness since the beginning - a sign, I was informed, that meant things were good for baby. I did have a urine infection at about 12 weeks, but the gynae gave me some tablets and it cleared up. I have had a mini scan and saw the heartbeat and was told everything was well. At my last appointment with the midwife 2 weeks ago, we heard the heartbeat and I was informed that all of my blood tests had arrived back fine and that my blood count was excellent. My problem has been straining when I go to the loo (sorry to be so graphic) and have been suffering from piles for the last week and a bit. My main problem is that last night, after going to the loo, I noticed a couple of spots of blood on the toilet paper. It didn't actually come to anything, I had no pain or cramping, but was worried. My husband phoned the emergency midwife, who told me to stay in bed and inform my GP if the bleeding continued, got heavier or I had any pain. I am going to visit my GP tomorrow, but would appreciate any advice anyone may have. Thanks in advance.
