Re: very painful cervical biopsy

Wow Rebecca, I'm impressed - I thought my colposcopy and cryo was bad! Something doesn't sound right with a Doc trying to work with you in obvious pain...there's no excuse for that! I know that there's a little bottlebrush looking thingey they use to get some of the cells from the cervix during a Pap Smear, but that's uncomfortable...not painful. I'd say that you should go back to your other clinic even if it is a longer drive...it's better than suffering some fool poking around at your cervix trying to get into it with a scrape! You've been through some pretty uncomfortable procedures before so it's not likely that you're a wimp...sounds like your new lady doc is a jerk!

Believe me I've been traumatized like this before. I had a Doc just start opening up an incision and stitches with a scapel on my hand...I had tears rolling, hyperventilating and sweating popping out everywhere. I finally said, forget it, I'd cut loose my incisions when the swelling went away...my hand was terribly swollen from infection and really, really poor suture technique (I mean...I could have sewed it up myself better than he did!) I was so MAD! Not only did it hurt like heck but it was unnecessary to begin with. I got over the pain, but I sure was mad and still refer to him as "the Pyscho Surgeon." But the whole experience hardened my resolve with dealing with DOCs - no more pain, no matter what. If there's something that is painful, then they can do something about it even if it does usually mean more time and little bit more trouble.

Good luck!
