Suzy, There are a variety of over-the-counter ointments, none really any better than the others. The sore simply needs to run its course. In the mean time, you can treat with one of these available preparations. It the problem becomes frequently recurrent, then there are options your physician can offer. Lysine available commercially has been effective... Lynn
