Hi. I am 32 and have been having pelvic exams at least once a year for 14 years. I have never had a painful exam; I have never been rushed or mistreated. I remember being very afraid during my 1st exam. My advice would be to relax as much as you can. Count the circles on the ceiling, try to remember all of your friends middle names, imagine the sound of one hand clapping. You get my point. Focus on anything but the exam. Also, deep breathing should help relax you. Also, I agree with everyone who said to discuss your concerns with the Dr. before the exam. If you fear you'll be too nervous to express yourself well, write it down. Don't put it off any longer. Pelvic exams save women's lives. Best of luck and please post your experiences here after your appointment. JD
