Re: uterine fibroids and progesterone

You could try but be aware that your body can convert progesterone to estrogen and if it does that then you will end up with more than you bargain for. Natural progesterone may work differently but if you look at a steroid pathway chart then progesterone is the precurser to a lot of other hormones (something Dr. John Lee has ommitted to tell anyone! - seeing as he is on the bandwagon pushing his own cream). My theory is that natural prog. cream does work at alleviating symptoms for a lot of women but not for the reasons he states. It's that very mechanism of converting to what's needed that makes it successful. So depending on what your body decides to do with it I would approach with caution in your case. Before my hyst. in December last year I started on a synthetic progesterone for a few months because I had to slow down the bleeding (I was already anaemic and had fibroids). I knew I'd had to have the hyst and just had to get through the following months) By the time I had an another ultrasound my fibroids had grown very rapidly, and after a hysteroscopy before hysterectomy I went off the progesterone. I was only off it for 6 weeks but on the pathologists report my fibroids had shrunk down to what they were before I started progesterone.Coincidence? Maybe but I doubt it. Everyone is different and their body uses these things in an individual way. There is still a lot they don't know about fibroids and I wish they would do more research - it would save a lot of uneccesary hysterectomies. But then that may be bad for business? Anyway just thought I'd give you my story and a glimplse of what I have learned in the last year through my own research. I'd tread carefully, in other words. At Fri, 1 Dec 2000, anonymous wrote: >
