The reason it proliferates and causes a yeast infection with symptoms, etc. is that the acid/base balance of the vagina gets outa whack, which suppresses the bacteria that normally holds yeast in check. This allows the yeast to take off and results in a yeast infection. Anything that upsets the acid/base balance of the vagina can be the culprit. This includes diet, stress, medications, change in environmental temperature, change in sexual behavior, etc. Finally, anytime somebody has a recurrent, resistent yeast infection, I always want to assure that it is indeed a yeast infection. There are several other things that can cause yeast infection like symptoms and you can treat these problems from now until we actually have a president elected without a resolution. Another reason for a follow-up visit to the physician... Lynn
