Hi,

Could be a vaginal wart, cyst, etc, and yes it could be caused by the sexual assault. Online its impossible to offer a diagnosis or attempted diagnosis of this type of problem. You do need to see a physician asap about it, to determine if you have any internal involvement. If you want to read more about STDs, cysts, etc go to yahoo.com or lycos.com and do some searches using those as keywords. That should yield many results for you to look over.

I notice your email address is based at Tufts, so I assume you're a student/staff/etc in the area. If you don't already have a gynecologist (hopefully you do, since everyone over the age of 18 should be seen annually and have a pap smear), go see Andrea Zuckerman. Her office phone is 617-636-5289. She's right at Tufts-NEMC and sees kids, teens, and adults for gynecology. She's also an OB. She's an excellent doctor and she has a lot of great staff working with her. She and her staff makes exams and procedures as comfortable and non-traumatic as possible, and she's very good at dealing with people who have experienced sexual trauma. I've seen her myself for several years for exams, tests, surgery etc and I've been very pleased with her services. She accepts most health insurance plans, and her secretary is great about squeezing people in.

In the meantime keep the area extra clean and dry, wash your hands well after using the restroom, and if a fever or any discharge develops, call your primary care right away.

Take care

Kas
