dark nipple dischargeFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 27 Nov 2000 17:52:57 -0600 (CST)
Sent: Monday, November 27, 2000 4:09 PM Subject: Re: Breast discharge and lack of period THis is rather long and confusing and I will definately try to compress the story. I have had a discharge from my breast now for 14 years. It is only seen when I squeeze my nipples during breast exams. Approx. 12 years ago I had a prolactin level which was normal and was told to continue to check but only during self exam. Recently while checking I noticed that the discharge from one duct was very dark (actually coffee colored) it doesn't appear to be red as blood colored however I wonder if that is what blood would actually look like from a milk duct. I have seen my Dr. had prolactin levels done, and Thyroid levels done. TSH was normal...T3-3.4 ...T4-1.2... Prolactin was 6.6. I am 47 years old and have been post-menopausal since I was 45. Approximately 8 years ago I was diagnosed with a clinical depression and a Thryoid condition (Hashimotos Thyroiditis) which righted itsself. For the depression I have been on Serzone or Doxepin since that time. I have always always been very fit, very athletic and eat healthy - even though I think that this makes me sound like a mess!! Could this possibly be a pituitary or Thyroid issue even if the levels seem fine.
