Re: ten and one half year old daughter's vaginal discharge and incontinence

I had very much the same thing when I was a small child, including constant yeast infections, from about 3 yrs old until 10 or 11. I remember the doctors gave me a general anaesthetic at 7yo to do the complete internal exam. They thought I had masturbated and inserted something, or had been sexually abused. They came up with nothing as far as I was ever told. (But since growing up, even though I have no memory of abuse, I have wondered why it all stopped when we moved away from my stepfather. I know as an adult, I only get these symptoms with an increased level of sexual activity.)

I still remember the whole thing as extremely traumatic, not the pelvic exam itself (as I was under g.a.) but it was awful being carted off to so many doctors and inspected between the legs. It sounds like you are being very careful with your daughter, but this is a tough situation. I remember the worst part, was that my mother felt the need to discuss this with her friends, my teachers, etc. I am 29 now, and still not over that! When you are a child, it's so hard to rationalise what's happening to you. Please spare your daughter's dignity as much as possible, because she will probably remember the humiliation more than the actual exam/s.

Also, there are special pediatric gynaecologists that would hopefully be best to deal with this. I wish my mother had taken me to a kid specialist.
