Question for the Doctors about lingering rash--HELP!From: Eileen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 Nov 2000 18:07:27 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I have PCOS and am taking a few meds to treat it. I also have fairly severe allergies, and take regular shots at home to treat that. In September, one of my toenails fell out, and then a month later, the same toenail on the other foot fell out. I took the antibiotic Levaquin both times to first treat and then prevent infection in my feet. I also use a fungal solution on my toenails. Well, about a week to 10 days after stopping the Levaquin, I broke out in an awful rash--had to go to the ER. That was on October 28th, and I am still breaking out. I was on prednisone for 2 weeks, had awful side effects, took Zyrtec for a week, began breaking out worse again, went back to the doc, and he put me back on Prednisone. I am tolerating the prednisone side effects better this time, but it still makes me a little dizzy. Does it seem reasonable that the Levaquin caused this reaction? Shouldn't it be out of my system since I quit taking it a month ago? I also have had allergic reactions to Keflex and Amoxicillin. My allergist thinks it might be a food allergy, but I never had food allergies before, just to mold and airborne stuff and some antibiotics. Any thoughts or advice appreciated. PS: One thing that has been helpful in conjunction with the prednisone for itching has been to take baths in a fine oatmeal powder solution. I make a little paste and rub it directly into the skin. They sell it over the counter in the drug store. Thanks for any advice. Eileen.
