This is because either the pregnancy that is going to miscarry still has some placental tissue that is active producing HCG or an ectopic pregnancy is not implanted in the appropriate place, therefore unable to proliferate appropriately, therefore the HCG is not rising appropriately. I would certainly contact your physician and follow his/her direction. This likely represents an impending miscarriage, but could also certainly represent an ectopic pregnancy... Lynn
