antibiotics and menstrual cycle lengthFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 19 Nov 2000 12:26:47 -0600 (CST)
Hello, My menstrual cycle was usually 26 days (although I think it was 28 when I was younger). I am currently 35 years old. Recently, I was put on two separate courses of antibiotics for two different genital track infections. The last antibiotic I was on was flagyl and this was for trichmoniasis. The first antibiotic shortened my cycle by a day. The first month following the second course of antibiotic (flaygl), I ovulated on the third day and had a 17 day cycle. During the two months following, however, I appeared to ovulate on the 10th day and my cycle length changed to 24 days. My doctor informed me that the antibiotic might change the length of my cycle, but I am concerned that my cycle may now be too short for me to become pregnant. Here are my questions: 1. Might the length of my cycle eventually return to normal? 2. Can I do anything to increase the length of my cycle?
