Re: Another question re: abnormal ANAFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 18 Nov 2000 00:20:53 EST
Hi there, I know a parent with an autoimmune disorder can pass the tendancy onto her child. I am not sure if it can affect your chances of getting pregnant, but believe that certain autoimmune conditions can indeed cause adverse reactions and medical problems in children. Remember, this varies a lot depending on the type of disease, severity, etc. I listed some websites below that will give you some insight, hopefully. If you suspect an autoimmune disorder, wait to attempt to get pregnant until you and your partner meet with a reprouctive endocrinologist. Most teaching/large hospitals have these, and they can also be found in private clinics. Rheumatologists can be of help, too. Here are some addresses: 1) Long address, but great site with misc info on various autoimmune disorders, explanations, etc: http://jhhs.client.web-health.com/web-health/topics/generalhealth/generalhealt hsub/generalhealth/autoimmune/auto.html 2) Misc information on conditions that may affect pregnancy and future children: http://www.modimes.org/healthlibrary2/factsheets/PrePregnancy_Planning.htm 3) Autoimmune diseases in women: http://www.aarda.org/women.html 4) Doctors' concerns about autoimmune disorders in women: http://www.mdausa.org/publications/Quest/q46pregnancy.html 5) More autoimmune disease information: http://www.mylifepath.com/topic/autoimmune If you need more, let me know. Take care Kas
