Abnormal breast tissue changes due to ERT?From: Donna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Nov 2000 15:55:51 -0600 (CST)
I am 40 and having a hysterectomy in Dec. Because of my age I'm "on the fence" as far as removing my ovaries, I get many conflicting opinions. The doctor will do as I wish. I've been reading and trying to be very informed. I've been leaning toward keeping them. A woman I know had a hysterectomy 10 years ago at the age of 38. She kept her ovaries, which continued to be healthy for 5 years. As soon as she started estrogen, she suddenly started having abnormal mammograms that showed what she described as "tiny dots that looked like black pepper". Every test she has shows them. It concerns her greatly, and she directly links it to the ERT since that's exactly when it started. Now I have additional concerns over ERT, in case I need the ovaries removed when visualized during surgery, or even at a later time when I need ERT. What could this be? Is it common? Is it a predisposition to cancer? Should I let this be a consideration affecting my own decisions?
