STD questionFrom: Erica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Nov 2000 15:55:25 -0600 (CST)
This is not really a burning question since it has to due with something that occurred about 8 years, ago, but I am curious. Wehn I was 23 I ended a relationship because I found out my partner was not being monogmaous. Several months after we broke up, I was tested for all major STDS and came up clean. Nearly a year and a half later (during which time I did not have sex)I was tested again as part of a routine exam when changing gynos, and tested positive for gonorrhea. I was treated and retested and was fine. My questions are: how could I have had gonorrhea for that long with NO symptoms, and how could the first test have missed it? Is it possible that I received a false negative on the second test? I'm also wondering, now that I'm closer to thinking about having children, whether or not my fertility could have been impaired if I was infected for that long. My exams since then have always been normal. Thanks!
