Recurrent Recto Vaginal FistulaFrom: Marliese (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 16 Nov 2000 23:37:07 -0600 (CST)
I'm a 36 yr old who sustained a 4th degree tear while delivering my first son in 1988. In 1990 I delivered my sencon son with no tearing, however, shortly after that, I knew that something just wasn't right. In 1993 I "self-diagnosed" my rectovaginal fistula while in nursing school. I had my first surgery in 1994 to attempt the repair. Since that time, I have had nine (9) surgeries to try and repair this fistula--all have proven to be unsuccessful--I've gone to general, OBGYN, and Colorectal surgeons and none have been able to successfully repair this fistula. I now have what they're calling a "temporary diversion-colostomy", but I've had it for almost a year now during the last 3 surgeries that I've had in 4/00, 6/00 & 8/00. I desperately want to get back to some sort of normalcy in my life and would like to know if there's any "new" advice/technology or anything anyone might have to offer that may help me get through this successfully. Thank You.
